Jury Reaches Verdict in Triple Murder Trial of Chad Daybell
Doomsday cult leader faces charges in the deaths of his first wife and two stepchildren
Boise, Idaho (ABC4) - A verdict has been reached in the triple murder trial of Chad Daybell, the leader of a doomsday cult.
Daybell was charged with the deaths of his first wife, Tammy Daybell, and two of his second wife, Lori Vallow's children, Joshua "JJ" Vallow and Tylee Ryan. The jury reached the guilty verdict after deliberating for around six hours.
Daybell's trial has been closely watched due to the bizarre and disturbing nature of the crimes. Prosecutors alleged that Daybell and Vallow killed the children in order to prevent them from exposing their doomsday cult beliefs. Vallow is also facing charges in the case, but her trial has been severed from Daybell's.
The verdict is a major victory for the prosecution and brings closure to the families of the victims. Daybell is scheduled to be sentenced on June 22.
